Research on African Labour Markets (REALM)

REALM is a group of African and international researchers who use microeconomic data at the firm, household and individual level to investigate labour markets outcomes in a number of African countries. Currently the network is formed around a project that examines Labour market dynamics in times of crisis: Evidence from Africa which is funded by the International Development Centre, Canada.

This project brings together 11 different research groups from eight different Sub-Saharan African countries to investigate the dynamics of labour markets and the impact of shocks, including political, civil war, and financial shocks on individuals and firms. A specific focus of the research is how women and other marginalised groups are affected by these shocks. A key component of the project is to develop a network of young emerging African researchers and more experienced international academics working on these issues.
