Intimate Partner Violence Intimate Partner Violence occurs between individuals who have shared or currently share an intimate relationship. Whilst any individual can be a victim, women remain most vulnerable. We can Break the silence, by speaking out, seeking support and creating communities that facilitate this. The Victims Charter Victims of crime often find themselves further violated in pursuing the process of Justice. There are many measures, most importantly the Constitution of South Africa which seek to protect a victim from secondary victimization. In this week’s article, we look at 7 of these protected rights to create awareness and empower a person who may go through this process. Read more.

LGBTIAQ+ While GBV is largely experienced as violence against heterosexual and cisgender women, it can affect all people, including LGBTIAQ+ people. It requires that we address societal issues of patriarchy, economic relations, and changing the way we’re thinking about gender relations. This is important for informed conversations about GBV. Human trafficking Human trafficking also called ‘trafficking in persons’ is a dynamic phenomenon, a vicious crime against a person’s Human Rights and has been denoted as a form of modern-day slavery. Government condemns any form of violence. We can help by believing in a person that reports abuse, share the gender-based violence number 0800 428 428 and don’t give up in trying to make society a better place for all.

Support Every day, those impacted by gender-based violence and sexual abuse enter the Criminal Justice System. It’s a process that may seem intimidating and may leave victims further traumatized. Medico-legal assistance is available and is there to support an individual in the best way possible. Read more in the article to see how support can be accessed.
