The hind limbs are short and stout and typical of a digger. The pes has five digits and although the Aardvark hinkdlimb is digitigrade in gait, it is plantigrade when at rest. The whole of the sole of the foot held flat on the ground, like our own, enables the animal to firmly ground itself whilst the forelimbs are digging.
