DESCRIPTION:This exhibition opens at the 91¿´Æ¬Íø Art Museum.Join the 91¿´Æ¬Íø Arts Museum for the opening of an exhibition named Black African Modernisms (1940-1990). This exhibition is part of an extensive African art research project, currently being undertaken by leading African art scholars from around the world.
<br />The project examines the concepts of modernism and modernity in relation to African art. The artworks by over 20 artists, drawn mostly from 91¿´Æ¬Íø Art Museum’s permanent collections, will offer insight into the various ‘modernist’ approaches that were of interest to black South African artists from the 1950s to the 1990s.
